Diocese of West Texas

St. Margaret's Episcopal Church and School is a Mission Church of the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and is under the oversight of the Rt. Rev. Gary Lillibridge, Bishop of West Texas.  It was named in honor of St. Margaret, wife of Malcolm, King of Scotland in around 1066 AD. Queen Margaret earned the love and respect of all Scotland through her efforts to strengthen and spread Christianity throughout the nation.  Through her influence and devotion, monasteries, schools, orphanages, and hospitals were founded.

After holding services in Home Owner Club Houses in various subdivisions in Northeast San Antonio, the nascent congregation moved Sunday worship to the Stahl Elementary School on the first Sunday in Advent 1979. The move was occasioned by both the need for additional space and also to be closer to the future site of the church which was acquired by the Diocese during October-November 1979.

A loving, family oriented group of people, ably led by a series of equally loving and energetic clergy, grew and prospered not only in numbers but also in physical facilities. The first building, the current Parish Hall, was moved on to the property and renovated - mostly by the parishioners themselves -during Fall 1979. Other structures were added in quick succession - the Church in Fall 1981, the Rectory in Spring 1983, and the Class Room Building in Fall 1984.

St. Margaret’s began as a loving, caring, faith filled, fun loving group of families who joyously welcomed all who came to worship and build with them. That ethos still exists to this day and pray God it will continue as long as we exist.
